The latest report says that Apple is going to bring back the Smart Battery Case for iPhone 17 Air, and I have some thoughts on it.
Apple is Going to Remedy the iPhone 17 Air Battery Life by Bringing Back the Smart Battery Case
The iPhone 17 Air is going to be a super-duper thin phone. The latest hands-on with the dummy model suggests the phone is going to be just 5.65mm thin.
This thinness means Apple is going to make some compromises when fitting in some components inside the iPhone. In other words, the battery life is all set to suffer.
According to the latest report from The Information, the iPhone 17 Air is going to be so thin, it will sacrifice on battery life. So much, in fact, that Apple is going to bring back the Smart Battery Case for the 17 Air.
I have a lot of thoughts on the Smart Battery Case. It’s one of the strangest accessories Apple used to make.
Sure, it got the job done, but if you’re going to put it around your iPhone 17 Air for extra battery, then it’s probably a better idea to just buy a thicker non-Air model instead.
Even the last Smart Battery Case Apple released for iPhone was extremely thick. It’s like Apple didn’t innovate with the accessory at all.
I want Apple to bring back the MagSafe Battery Pack instead. To this minute there’s no accessory like it. And I’m sure Apple can make a new one which is way thinner than the original model with Lightning.
Another thing that has me worried is this: Apple is rumored to use its own modem in the iPhone 17 Air, which is an efficient component, as demonstrated by the iPhone 16e. Even with the Apple modem inside, is the battery really that bad that it needs a Smart Battery Case?
