Apple has released new 7E108 firmware for the USB-C AirPods Max headphones, and it is available for download now.

AirPods Max Latest Firmware 7E108 Now Available for Download, Up from 7E101 which Introduced Lossless Support

This firmware update is available for the USB-C model of the AirPods Max only, if you have the Lightning version, this update is not for you.

Though the update was released just now, there is a way to find out if you’re running the latest version or not. You will find the entire tutorial by going to this link.

If you’re interested in forcing your AirPods Max to the latest firmware update, Apple has highlighted a few steps which you can follow. You’ll find all the details posted here.

In Settings, if you find that you are running firmware version 7E101, it means you’re on the older software update. This update brought lossless playback support to the AirPods Max over USB-C.

I’m only going to assume the new 7E108 update fixes bugs and improves performance for the AirPods Max, and does not add any new feature at all. If there was a new feature coming, Apple always informs users ahead of time.

Such updates arrive from time to time and exist to keep AirPods Max functioning at their best.

While there is a way to ‘force’ the update onto your AirPods Max, do keep in mind your headphones will update automatically anyway.

I usually don’t bother with this at all, and let Apple decide when the update is installed on my headphones, which is the best route you can take.
