According to a fresh report, new iPad Air models, set for release in 2027, will feature OLED displays for better color and contrast.

Apple’s Next iPad Air with M5 Chip Will Feature OLED Display Panels from Samsung Display

The report comes from the publication ET News, and is something we have been hearing for quite some time now. In fact, one report said that the M4 iPad Air will ship with OLED displays, but clearly, that hasn’t happened.

The new report cites industry sources, and Apple will begin mass-producing iPad Air models with OLED displays from Samsung Display later this year, and we can expect them to start shipping in early 2027.

It remains to be seen if these OLED displays will be similar to the ones found in the iPad Pro, or completely different. Because Apple is using high-end tandem OLED displays in iPad Pro that results in a brighter image. Clearly, such technology will boost the price of iPad Air.

Apart from tandem OLED, I wonder if iPad Air will get ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate as well. Only time will spill more beans regarding this report.

I have this feeling Apple is going to stick with a regular OLED panel with no support for 120Hz at all, in order to keep the cost down. Because the display alone is a big upgrade that will drive the cost up.
