A new report says that Apple is giving the front-facing cameras of the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro a big upgrade to 24 megapixels.
iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air 2, and Folding iPhone to Feature Higher-Resolution 24-Megapixel Front Facing Cameras
With iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, Apple upgraded the front-facing cameras to 18-megapixels with Center Stage and square sensors.
With iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro, Apple is upgrading the camera sensors once again, bringing them up to 24 megapixels, which is a huge improvement, according to information from a JP Morgan equity research report shared by MacRumors.
Since the iPhone Air 2 is also said to be a part of the 2026 lineup, you can expect it to have the new 24-megapixel sensor as well. However, combine that with the rumor that it will also have a second rear-facing camera, Apple’s upcoming slim iPhone is already turning out to be a sweet deal.
Another interesting thing in the research report is how it mentions that Apple’s folding iPhone will also feature a 24-megapixel under-display camera, which is going to be an industry-first due to its high megapixel count.
In case you’re wondering, this under-display camera will be on the large internal display. It appears as though Apple is going for a real edge-to-edge look rather than have any sort of Dynamic Island or notch on top of the display. This makes the folding iPhone a little extra exciting already.
A bump in megapixels is always a good thing because it is what lands you a sharper image. Pair that with a square sensor, and you have yourself a camera that is meant to shoot great video all the time.
