The final version of HomePod Software 26 update is now available for download around the world on HomePod and HomePod mini.
HomePod Software 26 Final Version is Now Available for Download with Tons of Under-the-Hood Improvements
In all the noise, Apple also released the final version of HomePod Software 26. Though it might not be a feature-packed update, but it is an important part of the Apple ecosystem.
According to Apple this is what’s new in the software update:
Software version 26 includes support for crossfade with Apple Music and AirPlay improvements. This update also includes bug fixes and stability improvements.
Crossfade on HomePod smoothly transitions between songs by fading out the currently playing song while fading in the next so the music never stops.
When using AirPlay to play audio on HomePod, you can now ask Siri on HomePod to play to another HomePod speaker in your home.
On its own, the HomePod and HomePod mini are just smart speakers with Siri built into them. But, when you bring in the Apple Home element, the HomePod serves as a hub to control your smart devices, such as bulbs, cameras, etc. when you’re away from home.
Updates like HomePod Software 26 ensure that everything runs smoothly across your device and that your home is accessible and safe when you’re away.
Though HomePod and HomePod mini updates install automatically once they’re released, but you can speed up the process by installing them manually. And this is what you have to do:
Step 1. Launch the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Step 2. Right at the top you’ll see the ‘three dots’ menu button. Click or tap on it to reveal more options.
Step 3. Now select Home Settings.
Step 4. Scroll down a little and you’ll see Software Update.
Step 5. Open Software Update and update all your HomePod speakers from here.
No matter how you use your HomePod at home, it’s best that you update it to the latest firmware immediately. Apart from bug fixes, updates like these also include a bunch of security enhancements, ensuring your data stays private at all times.
If there is anything noteworthy in this update for HomePod, I will highlight it in a separate post. But for now, it seems like Apple is only focusing on performance and keeping major updates exclusive to devices that have a screen on them.
Given the lack of feature additions, it can be taken as a sign that Apple is about to do something big in the HomePod category, and a smart display is not too far off either with references to homeOS being found just recently as well.
Keep an eye on HomePod, chances are high it’s about to receive its biggest upgrade yet.
