Want to disable the Mac startup sound on your iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and more? You can do that in a single click.

Stop Your Mac from Playing the Startup Chime by Simply Turning off One Toggle Switch in macOS

In recent versions of macOS, disabling the Mac startup sound is very easy. All it takes is one click in System Settings. You don’t have to fiddle around with Terminal at all.

Once you do that, whenever you turn on your Mac, you’ll see the Apple logo on the display, but won’t hear that F# major chord through the speakers.

It will be perfect silence.

This is great for times when you want to remain stealthy whenever booting up your Mac, especially if you own a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, and don’t want to draw attention in a place like a classroom or a library.

This is what you have to do in order to disable the Mac startup sound.

Step 1. Launch System Settings.

Step 2. In the list of options on the left, click on Sound.

Step 3. Find ‘Play sound on startup’ and disable it, as shown in the screenshot below.

You can give this a shot by simply restarting your Mac. Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar, and then click on Restart.

You won’t hear the startup sound at all, which also means the setting was successfully implemented.
