Apple is not moving away from the use of titanium entirely this year, as the iPhone 17 Air is said to use the material exclusively.
iPhone 17 Air is Going to Feature a Titanium-Aluminum Alloy Body, Rest of the Lineup will be Aluminum Only
Recent reports said that that Apple is dropping the use of titanium in favor of aluminum with the iPhone 17 lineup, with mixed reports suggesting that Apple may use it in the Pro models.
But, recent rumors started saying that Apple is dropping the use of titanium entirely from the iPhone lineup, and will use aluminum across the board.
However, according to a research note by analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is not entirely dropping the use of titanium this year. In fact, Apple is going to use it in the iPhone 17 Air, its thinnest iPhone to date.
The iPhone 17 Air will use the same titanium-aluminum alloy metal frame. But it is said to feature a lower percentage of titanium compared to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
That makes perfect sense given how thin the iPhone 17 Air is going to be.
A recent rumor also said that the iPhone 17 Air will use the more powerful A19 Pro chip instead of the vanilla A19, and to give it that extra firepower, it will feature 12GB of RAM as well.
