A new report suggests Apple’s next iPad Pro might switch to LG Innotek’s chip-on-film technology, allowing for slimmer bezels.

M5 iPad Pro Might Use LG’s CoF Technology, Allowing for Slimmer Bezels and a Larger Display in the Same Size Chassis

According to The Elec, Apple might switch over to LG Innotek’s chip-on-film (CoF) technology, allowing Apple to shrink the bezels, make the display larger, while keeping iPad Pro’s body size the same.

Apple might even use LX Semicon’s display driver IC, which is far more power efficient and could potentially enhance the overall battery life of iPad Pro.

Do keep one thing in mind: Apple is yet to make a decision on this, and there is a chance it will stick to its current display driver IC supplier for iPad Pro, which happens to be Samsung. The report says this decision will be made this month.

An iPad Pro with thinner bezels and a larger display will definitely be a huge treat. However, previous reports have constantly pointed out that the M5 iPad Pro will look similar to the current M4 model.

The new iPad Pro will be announced in the second half of 2025, and if I’m to take an educated guess, the new iPad will be revealed after the new iPhones have been announced.

Currently, the new model is said to be in testing phases, and if today’s report is anything to go by, a change in display driver technology seems like a very last-minute thing.

I’m going to assume that Apple isn’t going to change anything with the M5 model and keep it exactly the same as the current one. It just makes far more sense because it’s rare for Apple to suddenly change the design of iPad in one generation.
