From now on, whenever you post a photo to Instagram shot using your iPhone, the social network will no longer crop it.

Instagram Adds Support for Posting 4:3 Photos, the Aspect Ratio Your iPhone Shoots Images in

Your iPhone shoots 4:3 photos by default, and if you post those photos to Instagram, they are automatically cropped in order to match the format Instagram supports, which is 4:5.

Today, Instagram has announced that it supports the 4:3 format and whenever you post photos shot using your iPhone on the social network, it won’t be cropped at all.

These photos will be posted exactly how they’re shot, meaning none of those precious pixels go to waste and everyone gets to see what you’ve shot.

I see this as fantastic news, because when you are shooting a photo, you really take into account everything that’s in the frame. When you lose some of it when posting, it’s a deal-breaker.

Though this issue doesn’t affect me at all since I intentionally leave blank spaces around the subject so that it gives me the flexibility for editing later, but for those who care, Instagram has finally heard you.

Since Instagram has made this change anyway, it would be great if the social network gives us exactly what we want, and that’s the iPad version of the app.

This week Meta released WhatsApp for iPad, and it gives me hope that good things are coming for Instagram as well.
