According to a new report, the first-generation HomePod mini, which you already have, will get Siri AI via software update.
Software Update 27.2 Will Bring Siri AI to the Original HomePod mini as Well, According to a New Report
The new HomePod mini 2 features a faster S10 processor, and support for Siri AI. However, Apple says Siri AI is coming to the speaker later via software update.
Now, CNET has shared information that the original HomePod mini, released back in 2020 will also get a software update that will enable Siri AI on it.
This is actually very big news, because Apple made Siri AI a huge deal on the HomePod mini. If it’s coming to the older model using a software update, like version 27.2, you can just keep your speaker for a little while longer.
Keep one thing in mind: Apple has not confirmed this news at all, and there’s no text on Apple’s website or press releases that confirms this either. For now, I will urge everyone to take this news with a grain of salt, until we get official confirmation.
In my home, the HomePod mini is only used as an AirPlay speaker, and if it gets Siri AI using a mere software update, I don’t see any point in investing a penny in the new one.
Update: As expected, the original HomePod mini won’t be getting Siri AI. In fact, the feature remains exclusive to the second-generation HomePod mini.
