Apple is bumping up the RAM in the M4 iPad Air to 12GB. Previously, it was 8GB, and has been like that since the M1 days.

Regardless of Which Storage Option You Get, the M4 iPad Air Comes with 12GB of RAM as Standard

If you are looking for a big spec bump without spending too much money, then the M4 iPad Air is the way to go. Not only it gets the faster M4 chip, it also gets more RAM as well.

Apple says the new iPad Air features 12GB of RAM with up to 120GB/s memory bandwidth. Compared to the M1, it had 8GB of RAM and has remained the same till the M3 model.

That extra bit of RAM comes in handy when a lot of multitasking is involved, which means an operating system like iPadOS 26 benefits from it a lot. And even if you don’t use multitasking, having extra memory around is always nice.

The 12GB of RAM is available across the board, and it doesn’t matter which storage tier you’re going for. Unlike the M5 iPad Pro, you get 16GB of RAM when you opt for the 1TB or 2TB storage options.

What I like the most is how the price of the iPad Air hasn’t changed despite an upgrade in RAM. And when you start to realize how expensive RAM has become around the world, thanks to AI, Apple is definitely looking out for its user base.
