Apple is going to take a bold step forward with iOS 27 by opening up Siri to integrate third-party AI chatbots.

Siri in iOS 27 will be Open for Third-Party AI Chatbots – Meanwhile, Gemini-Powered Siri is Nowhere in Sight

The Gemini-powered Siri is nowhere to be seen, and Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is planning to open up Siri to third-party AI chatbot support with iOS 27.

The way this feature works is pretty simple. When Siri isn’t able to process something, it automatically recommends using ChatGPT. With iOS 27, users will be able to add more third-party AI chatbots to get answers – including Gemini, Claude, not just ChatGPT.

The report says that third-party AI chatbots will integrate with Siri as an ‘Extension’ from the Settings app. This means adding and removing support is as simple as a flick of a switch.

While this may sound like good news and a huge win for those who crave choice, allowing third parties to work with Siri somewhat puts a question mark on Apple’s own efforts.

Apple could have launched the Gemini-powered Siri first, let people get a little comfortable with it, and then rolled out support for more AI chatbots in Siri. But turns out, that may not happen.

Either the new Siri is definitely not ready, or Apple plans to please everyone in one go with third-party AI support.
