Apple has made a slight change to how you buy a Mac from its website, ensuring that your new computer feels more personal to you.
Pre-Configured Mac Options No Longer Available on Apple’s Website, Customize Your Own for a More Personal Computer
Buying a Mac is pretty easy. Open Apple’s website, choose the model you want, select the pre-configured options that suit you best, and away you go. If you want more RAM or storage, you can step things up with a customized Mac instead.
However, Apple has removed the pre-configured options from its website and it takes you to the customization screen instead. What this means is that you get more control over what you are buying.
In other words, Apple wants you to feel that what you’re buying is truly personal. But is it actually a good idea? Well, if you think about it from a financial perspective, it favors Apple more, not you.

Once you start clicking on those upgrade options, chances are high you’ll get at least one upgrade, and that’s likely the internal storage or RAM, something you would not bother much with if you’re just presented with pre-configured options.
Whether you’re buying a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, or the Mac Pro, you won’t see the pre-configured options anymore. This is a change that was made across the board.
It’s a clever move from Apple, and it’s entirely up to you how you want to see it. Either you end up configuration that’s truly personal to you, or Apple baited you into spending more money by showing you how spending a little extra money can get you a ‘faster’ or ‘better’ Mac.
