A new rumor out of the supply chain says that Apple was testing a flip-style iPhone, just like the Galaxy Z Flip.
Apple Tested a Galaxy Z Flip Style iPhone, Whether it Will See the Light of Day Remains Unclear
Apple is going to announce its first-ever folding iPhone later this year, and rumor has it that this may not be Apple’s only foldable device.
According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple tested a flip-style iPhone, just like the one from Samsung, called the Galaxy Z Flip.
This is basically a clamshell-style iPhone that opens up vertically to reveal the display inside. I can only assume that there could be a small display on the outside to show the user notifications and summaries.
There’s no telling whether or not this flip-style iPhone will make it to the public, even though Apple is planning to compete with devices like the Galaxy Z Flip.
I firmly believe these flip-style devices don’t offer much in terms of functionality. At best, they are great fashion statements that sacrifice too much functionality to offer a unique looking form.
Devices like the iPhone and iPad are designed to be quick. They let you take action on something immediately. If you have to open up the display before you start swiping or typing, it’s nothing but an inconvenience.
However, given that we live in the age of pure competition, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone Flip turns out to be an actual product from Apple.
