If you are in the US and see ‘SOS’ on your iPhone where your signal bars should be, then you’re definitely on the Verizon network today.

Verizon Goes Offline in the United States with Tons of iPhone Users Reporting Devices in SOS Mode

At the time of writing, Verizon is seeing a nationwide outage, and tons of iPhone users are reporting on different social platforms that their device has switched over to SOS mode.

Some users on social media report that the network outage is limited to the east coast.

Verizon has confirmed the outage as well, and this is what they have to say:

We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.

The reason for the outage remains unknown. But given the issue at this scale, I’m sure Verizon will do everything in its capacity to get the network up and running.

In the meantime, it’s highly recommended that you connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network in order to stay online.

Update: Reports are coming in that there are outages across other networks too, including AT&T, U.S. Cellular, and Xfinity.

Update 2: Everything is back online.
