Contrary to previous reports, Apple is reportedly launching the second-generation iPhone Air this year, rather than the next one.
Apple is Going to Launch the iPhone Air 2 in 2026 with Very Small Changes
All reports say that Apple is breaking its iPhone release cycle into two parts. This year, the company is going to release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new folding iPhone.
In 2026, Apple is going to release the standard iPhone 18 model, iPhone Air 2, and the iPhone 18e.
However, leaker Fixed Focus Digital has shared some information on Weibo and says Apple is going to launch the iPhone Air 2 this year. But before you get way too excited, there’s something that might dial down your excitement.
While previous reports have suggested that Apple is going to add a second camera lens to the iPhone Air, the leaker says that the iPhone Air launching this year is going to be “a routine upgrade” rather than a big one.
If I’m to take a guess at this point, it’s like going from a standard iPhone to the ‘s’ model. At best, it will have a faster chip and other internal changes that will make up for a nice incremental upgrade, not anything major.
At this point in time, while the iPhone Air might not be a massive success, it has an unusual cult-like following. Those who have bought it refuse to go back to any other iPhone model, thanks to its ridiculously thin profile. Without any surprise, I’m one of them.
I’m just glad the second version of the iPhone Air is happening. It’s one of those smartphones that deserves to be in the hands of a lot of people. But keeping the single camera lens might not be a great move to win people over once again.
