Apple has officially announced the second-generation AirTag item tracker, and it has a handful of meaningful upgrades.
Second-Generation AirTag Now Official Improved Range, Precision Finding on Apple Watch, and Louder Speaker
The AirTag 2 has been rumored for launch for a long time, and Apple has finally announced it today in an official press release.
The new item tracker has a bunch of key improvements/upgrades, and I’m going to talk about them in the most concise way possible.
Design
The design of the AirTag 2 is exactly the same as the first one. This is a good thing, because this means you can simply use your older accessories with it.
Improved Range
Apple touts improved range on the new AirTag, thanks to the use of a second-generation Ultra Wideband and improved Bluetooth chip, and says it offers up to 50% better range compared to the previous model.
But do keep in mind that this is possible only if you have an iPhone 17, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, or the Apple Watch Series 11.
Improved range will come in handy when the tracker is hidden away and may struggle to connect to your device, like in the depths of your favorite couch.
Enhancements to Precision Finding
With AirTag 2, Precision Finding is no longer limited to iPhone. Apple is bringing it to Apple Watch as well, allowing you to precisely get to your item using a handy on-screen guide.

Apple says this feature requires at least an Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Louder Speaker
Thanks to its new internal design, Apple was able to fit a much louder speaker inside the new AirTag. Apple says this new speaker is 50% louder, allowing you to hear it from twice the distance.
Price and Availability
You can order the new AirTag from Apple today, and it will be available in stores later this week.
The best part is, Apple hasn’t changed the price, and a single AirTag still costs $29, while a 4-pack will set you back $99.
