At one point, Apple did consider releasing AirPods in bright colors. In fact, there are prototypes out there to prove it.

Since 2016, AirPods have always been available in white. And over time, a rumor would occasionally pop up saying that Apple is working to bring more color options to the earbuds, and so far nothing has happened.
While everyone has pretty much accepted the fact that Apple will never do colorful AirPods, it turns out the company was knee-deep into the idea, as newly posted images by Kosutami reveal.
The images show the first-generation AirPods with a pink and yellow charging case. But the interesting thing is, the earbuds themselves are white inside. Honestly, I’m glad these colors didn’t make it to the final, shipping product.
If you do want to add some color to your AirPods, just get one of those cheap silicone cases. Buy a pack of two or four in multiple colors, and you’ll be set for a long time to come.
For those willing to spend $549, you can get a little bit f color on your AirPods, but with AirPods Max only. And since they’re headphones, they don’t come with the convenience of the AirPods earbuds.
