Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to disable the ‘Time to Write’ Journal notifications on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and your Apple Watch.
Silence the Journal App and Disable the ‘Time to Write’ Notification on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch
Writing down your thoughts is a great way to self-reflect, set goals, help you find issues in life, and achieve so much more. The built-in Journal app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac allows you to do that, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be the Journal app. You can kick off your journaling adventure using a ton of third-party apps as well available on App Store. If Journal didn’t work out for you, that’s completely fine.
But, if you did launch Journal on one of your devices only just to try it out, and in the midst of all that gave it permission to send you notifications, then you might have seen that ‘Time to Write’ notification from time to time. If you want to disable it, and never see it again, then here’s what you have to do:
iPhone and iPad (iOS and iPadOS)
Step 1. Launch the Settings app.
Step 2. Find Notifications and open it.
Step 3. Scroll down in Notifications and find Journaling Suggestions.
Step 4. Right at the top you’ll see an ‘Allow Notifications’ toggle switch. Just turn it off.

Mac (macOS)
Step 1. Launch System Settings.
Step 2. Click on Notifications in the list of options on the left.
Step 3. In the list of apps, find Journal, and then click on it to open.
Step 4. Now turn off the ‘Allow notifications’ toggle switch at the very top.

With the toggle switch disabled, the Journal app won’t send you that ‘Time to Write’ notification. If you do use Journal a lot to document your day-to-day life, then do keep in mind you may miss writing in the Journal app.
