I did two things that ruined my iPhone Air, and if you wanna try, you can do it too. Chances are, you’ve already done it.

The iPhone Air is Designed to be Used Without Any Accessory Around it, But we Live in an Imperfect World

My plan is to keep the iPhone Air for at least two years before upgrading to something new. That way, I can enjoy the next upgrade even more. That’s why I skipped the iPhone 16 lineup completely because the changes were too small compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max I previously had.

In order to make the iPhone Air last those two years, I had to do a couple of obvious things.

First, I applied a screen protector on it. It instantly added noticeable thickness to the thin profile of the iPhone Air. I didn’t expect a screen protector to make this big of a difference, and yet it happened.

And it makes sense too, because the iPhone Air is just 5.6mm thick; even the slightest layer on it will be felt.

Secondly, I bought the official Apple case for it to keep it safe for the two years. The reason I went for the official option is simple – it is very thin at just 0.9mm.

However, despite that 0.9mm profile, the thickness is way too noticeable, and combined with a screen protector, the phone turns into a brick.

And that’s how I ruined the iPhone Air.

See, the iPhone Air is all about experience. The moment you lift it without any accessory on it, it gives you a sense of awe at how thin and light it is. Using any protective accessory almost feels like an insult.

But the world is cruel, concrete exists to shatter the back glass, and zippers around pockets and backpacks may scratch the display. If you don’t want to take any chances, you have no choice but to ruin the iPhone Air too.

I really wish Apple announces an iPhone in the future that lets you forget about the screen protector and case. An accessory-free experience is the best way to use any Apple device, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
