It’s been a full week since I got the iPhone Air, and I have a bunch of things to talk about, and I will keep it simple.
One Week in, the iPhone Air is Proving to be a Solid Daily Driver, But Will I Keep it in the Long Run?
I’ve never felt this much regret in my life after buying an iPhone. The reason for that is simple – I’m buying an iPhone I’m not used to. This felt like a very, very bad idea.
Maybe I should have gotten that Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro everyone is showing off?
Alongside the regret, the first day was spent setting up the iPhone Air, and I also ran into issues activating my eSIM. It’s the usual stuff you expect in the first couple of days, and there’s no way everything will turn out perfect during this time.
Once everything settled down, my apps, settings, photos, and videos were in place, my opinion about the iPhone Air changed. I can’t use an iPhone with the ‘older’ form factor going forward. And the fact that this thin piece of glass offers iPhone 17 Pro performance blows my mind every single time I pick it up.
The one thing that really caught me off guard is the amount of people asking me what phone this is. I’ve never had this happen to me in years. Usually, people dismiss the latest iPhone by simply saying ‘it’s like the one from last year.’ But this one is a head-turner.
Definitely love the attention I’m getting.
The single camera is more than enough, and I made sure ahead of time it wasn’t going to bother me either. Just a quick look at the Photos app will reveal which camera you use most often to shoot photos and videos.
I stick with the main sensor and occasionally use the 2x digital zoom, so the iPhone Air and its 48-megapixel camera are serving me well.
Sometimes I do miss that telephoto lens, but I don’t mind cropping into a 48-megapixel photo in the HEIC format. It works out fine on a smartphone display.
The one thing that is bothering me is third-party apps that haven’t been updated to support iOS 26. Given that developers had an entire summer to prepare for this and yet no proper updates rolled out, it goes to show how serious they truly are about software, but that’s a debate for some other day.
I turned off Adaptive Power immediately. The reason for that is an obvious one – I want the full power of the A19 Pro chip on iPhone Air, because that’s what I paid for.
Battery life is not a concern for me at all since my iPhone usually sits on a MagSafe charger set to the 80% charge limit.
The lack of a bottom-firing speaker does seem like a problem since I cup my hand on it to give the volume a boost. But a couple of days later, I have learned to live with the compromise.
Overall, the first week was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but ultimately, I see this as a solid daily driver, and I will report back about my experience with it as time goes by.
