Here’s a quick thickness comparison between the iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

iPhone Air is Just 5.64mm Whereas the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 8.75mm, Here’s a Thickness Comparison Between All Current Models

Apple’s iPhone Air is a very thin phone. Apple says it is just 5.6mm thick, which is the thinnest iPhone it has made to date.

The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, are slightly thick phones, which isn’t a bad thing, because you get a lot in return, for example, a bigger battery, improved thermal performance, and more.

Today, I’m going to do a thickness comparison between all the iPhones Apple has announced, including iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max:

  • iPhone Air – 5.64mm (0.22 inch)
  • iPhone 17 – 7.95mm (0.31 inch)
  • iPhone 17 Pro – 8.75mm (0.34 inch)
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max – 8.75mm ( 0.34 inch)

Let’s also bring in the iPhone models which Apple is currently selling alongside the new lineup:

  • iPhone 16e – 7.80mm (0.31 inch)
  • iPhone 16 – 7.80mm (0.31 inch)

You can instantly see that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are thick phones. But that thickness is not just for shows because you do get a lot in return, including a bigger battery, a powerful camera system, improved thermals, and so much more.

Compared to iPhone 16, the iPhone 17 sees an interesting increase in thickness. The jump from 7.80mm to 7.95mm might not seem like much, but it’s definitely there.

Then there’s the iPhone Air, which is just 5.64mm thick, a marvel of engineering. Sure, it makes some compromises, but this is going to be the future of iPhone, all packed into a slim chassis.
