Apple is going to ship the iPhone Air without a physical SIM card slot, and it will be eSIM only around the world.
Latest iPhone Air Drops Support for the Physical SIM Card Completely in Favor of eSIM
Apple’s decision to remove the physical SIM tray from the iPhone Air is somewhat justified. Since the phone is very thin, Apple wanted to make use of the space inside to give the battery as much room as possible.
Since eSIM is now a widely accepted standard, removing it completely makes perfect sense. In fact, I will go as far as saying that Apple’s future devices will completely drop the physical SIM card for eSIM, and that’s a great move.
After all, eSIM is convenient no matter how you slice it. If someone decides to pocket your iPhone without your knowledge, eSIM ensures that your device remains connected to 5G, so that it can be tracked using Find My.
Even if your iPhone Air is powered off, your device remains trackable using Find My. It’s an amazing peace of mind, and something which everyone should appreciate.
There’s nothing on Apple’s website that suggests that it has plans to sell a physical SIM card version of iPhone Air. If you are thinking about getting Apple’s new thin iPhone, it’s best you check with your carrier if eSIM support is there, and I’m 100% sure there is.
