Lab testing reveals wired and wireless MagSafe charging speed of iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Maximum USB-C Wired and MagSafe Charging Speeds for iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max Revealed in Lab Tests

A lot of people buying the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air might not know how fast these phones are when it comes to charging speeds.

Compared to last year, Apple has made some serious strides, and you can charge the new iPhones from zero to 50% in just 20 minutes, according to Apple, that too using its new 40W charger.

A lot of people are going to stick with either third party options, or just grab the official Apple charger on their way out. But which one should you choose in order to charge your new iPhone the fastest?

iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max USB-C Wired Charging Speeds

ChargerLAB put the new iPhones to the test and has some interesting numbers to share. I’m going to share the maximum charging speeds the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max support using Apple’s own charging adapters:

  • iPhone 17 – 28W maximum using Apple’s official 40W or faster charger.
  • iPhone 17 Pro – 28W maximum using Apple’s official 40W or faster charger.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max – 36W maximum using Apple’s official 40W or faster charger.

The test even reveals how fast these phones can charge using Apple’s official new MagSafe charger. These are the numbers that came out:

  • iPhone 17 – 29W using MagSafe.
  • iPhone 17 Pro – 28W using MagSafe.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max – 32W using MagSafe.

iPhone Air USB-C Wired Charging Speed

When it comes to iPhone Air, things get interesting. See, the phone is slim, the battery is small, and Apple had to make some adjustments to ensure the battery does not wear out as soon as possible. Therefore, the peak charging speeds are a little slower than the rest of the lineup.

According to ChargerLAB tests, the iPhone Air is able to achieve speeds of up to 18W only, using Apple’s new 40W charger. This also means spending money on that charger is not going to benefit you in any way. So just buy a 20W charger from Apple instead since it can achieve the same charging speeds.

iPhone Air Wireless MagSafe Charging Speed

The strange thing is, the test shows that the iPhone Air is able to charge at a speed of 21W using MagSafe which is faster than USB-C.

It almost feels like Apple is hinting at a completely wireless charging future here. But that’s just me speculating.

Conclusion

If you’re going for wired charging speeds, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max aren’t going to disappoint. And, buying Apple’s latest 40W charger makes a lot of sense too.

When it comes to iPhone Air, just get a 20W charger from Apple as it’s more than enough for charging the phone as fast as possible.
