Here’s how you can download and install the new iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates over the air (OTA) on your iPhone and iPad.
You Can Install iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Without Losing Your Files and Settings by Going for the Over-the-Air Download Option

There are multiple ways you can download the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 update on your iPhone and iPad. The quickest and easiest way is the over-the-air method.
It’s the method everyone will follow, but I want to make sure you do it right rather than jump into it and run into problems which you didn’t see coming.
Check Device Compatibility First
First of all, please make sure that your iPhone and iPad are compatible with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. Go through the list posted here. If you find your device in the list, it means you can download the update.
Backup is Necessary
I urge you to take a backup of everything using either iCloud or Finder. iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 are major upgrades, and if something goes wrong during installation, you’ll thank yourself for keeping a backup of everything.

Free up Space
You need to free up at least 15GB of storage in order to install this update without any sort of issue. Go to Settings > General > iPhone/iPad Storage to see how much free space you currently have. If something needs deleting, this section on your iPhone and iPad will show you exactly what is taking up the most amount of storage.
Download iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 OTA
Step 1. Make sure your device has 50% battery remaining or more. Plug into a power source if possible.
Step 2. Launch the Settings app.
Step 3. Tap on General.
Step 4. Open Software Update.
Step 5. Tap on Update Now when iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 shows up for download.
Once the update is successful, your iPhone and iPad will boot into the Welcome page, just follow the on-screen instructions to go straight into the Home Screen.
