Apple has released iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 developer beta 1 for iPhone and iPad devices, and you can download it today.

Apple Releases iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 Beta 1 for Developers, Available to Download Now on iPhone and iPad

With Apple releasing iOS 26.0 and iPadOS 26.0 just last week, it only made sense that it would follow it up with a new update for developers. Today is that day, and Apple has released iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 beta 1.

The interesting thing is, you can download this update on your iPhone and iPad right now as long as you’re signed up to the Apple Developer Program. If you are already, then signing up for the beta takes a couple of steps only.

First of all, you have to go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. Tap on iOS 26/iPadOS 26 Developer Beta in the list of available options.

Once done, you’ll see the new update show up in Software Update. Tap on Update Now underneath it, and the download will begin immediately.

The new iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 beta updates have the following build number: 23B5044l

At the time of writing, it’s hard to say what’s new in the update as I’m going to dig into it and see what’s new and report back on all the notable changes.

Since this is the first developer beta of iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1, I will not recommend downloading it. Wait for the public beta to arrive first. When that happens, the software is usually stable to test out on a daily driver device.

If you’re feeling super brave and just want to see what Apple is going to ship with iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 before anyone else, then you have the option to install the update right now.

After all, the Apple Developer Program is now free for everyone, and Apple no longer charges users as long as they’re only testing out beta software. If you’re planning to distribute your app to the App Store, then plans start at $99 a year.
