Apple is working on a new Vision Pro headset, which is set for release later this year with the M4 chip.
Vision Pro with M4 Chip Coming Later this Year, Thinner and Lighter Vision Air Coming in 2027
If you’ve been following the rumors lately, the next Vision Pro headset is supposed to ship with the M5 chip. However, a new report from Bloomberg says the new Vision Pro will ship with the M4 instead.
While that may sound like a bummer, but do keep in mind that the M4 is an extremely capable chip, as it has proven itself in products like the M4 iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and the Mac mini.
The new Vision Pro with M4 is also said to feature a faster Neural Engine, which will definitely help with AI-related tasks, or more specifically, Apple Intelligence.
Another thing that is being reported is that the new Vision Pro will ship with a far more comfortable strap. I don’t know how that will help, given that the headset is already quite heavy, and the strap is just going to help marginally no matter how comfortable it gets.
The report says that Apple is working on a thinner and lighter version of the Vision headset, which has been dubbed the Vision Air on several occasions. This new model will debut in 2027.
I don’t think the M5 chip would put the Vision Pro in any sort of advantage. The M4 is a very capable chip and will be a worthy upgrade when compared directly with the M2, which is currently in the Vision Pro.
