A new research note says that Apple is planning to launch the MacBook Pro next year with an OLED display, and it will ditch the notch too.
M6 MacBook Pro will Feature OELD Display, Will Ship with Punch Hole Camera Instead of a Notch
The notch on the MacBook lineup has been around since the M1 Pro days. But if a research note from Omdia analyst Linda Lin is anything to go by, things are going to change dramatically next year.
First of all, Apple is bringing OLED technology to the MacBook Pro, which means we can expect improved brightness, higher contrast ratio, and overall better color performance compared to Mini LED.
Secondly, it is believed that Apple is going to replace the notch with a hole punch camera on the new MacBook Pro. Though this part of the note remains very unclear.
A move to a punch-hole camera also means users will get an extra bit of usable screen real estate. It’s not much, but it will definitely be more.
Coming back to the OLED display, previous reports say that Apple is going to bring the technology to the MacBook Air lineup as well, but high cost of panels keep on pushing Apple’s plan forward.
The latest report says we might not see the OLED MacBook Air before 2027, but we might get an improved LCD display on the MacBook Air before that.
Previous reports say that Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro will keep all the design the same as the current model, so it’s likely that the OLED one will also come with a design shift, opting for a thinner chassis and, of course, a better display.
Given the release time-frame of the OLED model, it will likely ship with the M6 lineup of chips.
