Despite iOS 26 still in beta, Apple is going to start working on the next big thing – iOS 27 – very soon, according to a new report.

iOS 27 Developer Work Set to Begin Soon, with Big Focus on Features for the Folding iPhone Next Year

At the time of writing, the iOS 26 software update is three betas into its lifecycle. We are yet to witness the release of the public beta, let alone the final version of the software.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has chimed in with a couple of new pieces of information that shed light on what’s going on inside Apple’s software camp.

First of all, he says that the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 public betas are releasing this week. Previously, he did say Apple is planning to release the software on the 23rd of July, which is just a couple of days from now.

That being said, Apple is going to start development work on iOS 27 very soon, and is going to prioritize features that are meant for the folding iPhone. The same iPhone which is rumored to be released in the second half of 2026.

In short, iOS 27 is going to focus more on features for the folding iPhone, if anything else. This in turn means Apple might not pack the update with too many features for everyone else.

Honestly, given how good the iOS 26 update looks in its current form, I can’t wait to see the evolution of it with the release of iOS 27, especially when it comes to Liquid Glass.
