A new report sheds light on Apple’s smart home display plans, and it seems as though it is not going to launch this year.
New Apple Smart Home Display Launching Next Year Because A Crucial Siri Feature isn’t Ready Yet
Apple’s smart home display was all set for launch earlier this year, but then it was delayed for some reason. However, a recent report said that the display was set to arrive later this year instead.
Turns out, that is not happening either, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The thing is, Apple’s smart home display relies on voice commands and Siri. And the one thing that makes the smart display useful is the reliance on a new version of App Intents, which is just not ready.
App Intents allows the user to execute complex commands using Siri. This is a feature which was supposed to come to iPhone and iPad as well, but it was infamously delayed.
Apple said at WWDC 2025 that it will have more to share regarding the new and advanced Siri next year. So it is safe to assume that the new App Intents feature will be announced alongside it too, not before it.
Although this might seem like disappointing news, but I would rather have Apple delay a product and ship it properly at a later date than ship a half-baked experience earlier.
The iPhone 16 is a prime example of this, where the entire marketing revolved around Apple Intelligence, and the advertised features rolled out slowly and gradually. And the one thing which everyone was excited about – Siri – didn’t even make the cut to this day.
I’m hopeful Apple will get this one right at some point in time.
