Apple’s newly launched AppleCare One plan does not cover family devices, and works with devices that are under one Apple Account.

You Cannot Add Family Devices to Your AppleCare One Plan – it Works with Subscriber’s Apple Account Only

AppleCare One is exactly what fans have been asking for. For a low price of $19.99, it’s the best insurance policy there is, and you save a ton of money if you start buying AppleCare+ for devices individually.

However, I came across a bunch people who asked whether or not family devices can be added to the plan? And that’s a valid question too. After all, Family Sharing does exist in the Apple ecosystem, so AppleCare One should work with it too, right?

For instance, if you add your iPhone to the AppleCare One plan, maybe you can add your sister’s iPhone, or your brother’s iPad to it as well.

The answer to this question is a resounding no. And it’s right there on Apple’s website in the FAQs section.

Can I add my family’s devices to my AppleCare One plan?

AppleCare One plans can cover devices that are on the same Apple Account as the subscriber.

The chances of doing insurance fraud are very high if you think about it. Just create a fake family and add people into AppleCare One to save money. There’s no way Apple is going to allow that.

I’m sure that’s the reason why it does not work with families just yet, and who knows, it might bring the feature to Family Sharing down the line.

But for now, AppleCare One is only for you and your devices, not your family’s. Each family member has to purchase the AppleCare One plan individually for $19.99 or more, depending on the number of devices they want to enroll.
