In an official press release, Apple has announced that the current COO of the company, Jeff Williams, will be stepping down.
Apple COO Jeff Williams Being Replaced by Sabih Khan, Design Team to Report Directly to CEO Tim Cook
Apart from looking after worldwide operations, Jeff Williams has been involved in a bunch of other things at Apple, including Apple Watch engineering and health, and more recently, the design team.
Apple has officially announced that Jeff will be stepping down as COO later this month and will be succeeded by Sabih Khan, who has served in Apple for 30 years and is currently Senior Vice President of Operations.
Jeff will fully retire at the end of the year, and once that is done, the design team at Apple will report directly to CEO Tim Cook.
It remains to be seen for how long the design team will report to Tim Cook.
While Jeff did say that he plans to spend time with his family, friends, and grandchildren, but the timing of retirement is actually quite interesting.
There was a time when Jeff was rumored to replace CEO Tim Cook, but since he’s retiring himself at this point, it seems as though John Ternus is once again the likely candidate, as reported over a period of time.
At the time of writing, Apple is going through a rough patch when it comes to its artificial intelligence efforts, and only recently was one of their top AI models’ head, Ruoming Pang, poached by Meta.
Not only that, news of morale being low inside Apple is also making the news ever since it was reported that Apple may be talking to OpenAI and Anthropic in order to power the next-generation Siri.
In the EU, Apple is facing a ton of challenges as well, with the company being forced to comply to changes which it believes are against the ethos of the company.
There is a possibility Apple is looking to reshuffle things a little to get back on track. A fresh perspective only makes sense in times like these, and something tells me Apple will be able to sail through it without any issue, though it will be hit with a ton of criticism until it reaches its goals.
