The latest YouTube app update drops support for some iPhone and iPad models, and now only works on devices running iOS 16 and up.

YouTube App will No Longer Receive Updates on Some Old iPhone and iPad Models Going Forward

WhatsApp dropped support for some iPhone models just recently, and YouTube is also joining the party by ending support for some devices too.

If you have an iPhone or iPad that can’t run iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, then you can’t run the latest version of the YouTube app.

iPhones no longer supported include:

  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE

Some iPads are no longer supported and include the following models:

  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 4

Do keep one thing in mind: the YouTube app will work on the above iPhone and iPad models just fine, but they will no longer receive new features or updates. If you come across an issue and need support, you will no longer get it.

So, what’s the solution to this? Well, you do need to upgrade to a newer iPhone or iPad in order to keep on getting updates. But if everything is working just fine for you, I don’t see any reason why you should upgrade.

You can switch over to Safari for streaming if you like. Sure, it might not be feature-rich as the app, but it’s still a great alternative.

As long as the current version of the YouTube app is working fine, don’t bother with anything at all. That’s all I’m going to say.
