A look into the recently-released iOS 18.6 beta code suggests Apple is actively working on its smart home display.
iOS 18.6 Beta Code Includes References to Apple’s homeOS Operating System and its Smart Home Display
All signs point toward Apple working on a smart home display. Set for launch later this year, the device is said to run the company’s new homeOS operating system.
9to5Mac went deep inside the newly released iOS 18.6 developer beta and found reference to an asset that is meant for the homeOS operating system. What this means is, Apple is working on the smart home display and it will launch soon.
According to the report, the reference was found at the following path:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProgressUI.framework/apple-logo-1088@2x~home.png
See that ‘home’ part at the end? It means the asset is tailor-made for Apple’s smart home display running homeOS.
Recent reports say Apple is aiming for a launch later this year, and the home device is said to feature the company’s A18 chip and will also include Apple Intelligence capabilities.
This smart home display is said to feature a 7-inch display with an aspect ratio the same as that of the iPad. While the display might seem small, it seems as though Apple has clear intentions with its smart display, and it’s not for watching movies or TV shows, rather just to show information at a glance.
