In a very interesting statement, Apple SVP Eddy Cue said we might not need iPhone by year 2035, thanks to how AI is taking over.
AI is a Huge Technology Shift Which May Make us Less Reliant on iPhone
Google is currently facing a search-related antitrust case. During the hearing, Apple SVP Eddy Cue made some interesting remarks, especially when it comes to the iPhone, according to Bloomberg.
According to him, we may not need an iPhone by 2035 because the world is going through a technology shift and it’s creating new opportunities for new entrants. Hence, making the iPhone less and less relevant in 10 years.
That’s actually a very solid opinion. But I disagree, only because AI is just a heap of garbage that makes up answers as we go. For the longest time, I’ve had ChatGPT agree to all the word salads I threw at it and even worked hard to justify it.
I’m sorry to OpenAI for using all that GPU power while I was at it.
Sure, over time this technology will improve, but AI will never take over because people will always want control of something. A physical device like an iPhone or an Android phone gives them that control.
When you want to create something original, and everyone does at some point in time, a device like the smartphone will always be around for it.
When we do buy our gadgets, we tend to get our money’s worth. Even if I don’t want to use AI, I would prefer it that my next purchase has it anyway, you know, just in case. Assuming people are going to buy gadgets only for AI is far from the truth.
Have a look at the Humane AI Pin which shut down recently. It was the technology shift that couldn’t even dent the smartphone despite all the hype. Instead, it was scrapped and sold off.
Dedicated AI hardware is absolutely pointless when the smartphone is around, and it can be whatever you want it to be, even an AI agent.
Another interesting thing Eddy Cue revealed was that Apple is working to bring AI search features to Safari. Users will be able to choose from a list of third-party AI search providers but Google will likely be the default.
