Developers have the option to bypass Apple’s payment system completely on the App Store, and Apple is making sure it points it out properly.

Apps Bypassing Apple’s Secure Payment System Completely will be Highlighted with a Warning Label on App Store in the EU

With recent changes to the App Store, developers can completely bypass the App Store payment system for their own. Or, they can even use both side-by-side.

However, if a developer chooses to use its own payment system only, Apple is going to call the app out on the App Store with a warning label that reads as follows in the EU, as discovered by Michael Tsai:

This app does not support the App Store’s private and secure payment system. It uses external purchases.

As outrageous as it may sound, I think it’s absolutely fitting. Making a payment outside of a tried and tested secure system is a huge red flag.

The potential for getting scammed is too high.

At any given time, you can be overcharged without warning, and you have no idea where your credit card details are going. It’s a good idea to tell the user what’s going on and what the intention of the developer is.

Do you think this is a step too far, or is Apple doing the right thing?
