Apple’s Personal Hotspot feature is limited to 2.4GHz and 5GHz only. Even on Wi-Fi 6E devices, there’s no 6GHz support.

Wi-Fi 6E has been Around for Years, But You Can’t Create a Personal Hotspot Using the 6GHz Band

If you have an iPhone or iPad that supports Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, your device will connect to the 6GHz band just fine.

However, if you enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad, and connect to it using a Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 device, you’re limited to just 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands.

Even though all modern iPhones and iPads are tri-band-capable devices, but keeping the super-clean 6GHz band from being used is a deal-breaker.

I call it a deal-breaker because the 5GHz band is starting to get crowded, and chances of channel overlap are at an all-time high. The solution to this problem is 6GHz.

Just imagine sitting at your favorite crowded coffee shop, tethered to your iPhone on 6GHz with no inference in sight. It’s just you and that ultra-fast 5G data, nothing in between.

Not only is the 6GHz band cleaner, but it’s able to carry more data, allowing you to better utilize your cellular speeds on the go, especially if you’re connected to a mmWave 5G network.
